I’ll admit to sometimes being struck with ideas as I’m lying in bed, in that state between wakefulness and sleep. I know I should get up and get a notebook and write it down, but my muscles are heavy the mere thought of moving takes too much energy. I know I should get up and do it, but the lure of sleep is way to strong. I love my sleep. Plus I always think, I’ll remember in the morning. Of course I don’t and I kick myself that I should’ve written it down. Surely I could write with my eyes closed and it will make sense in the morning.
It was like when my computer got smashed last year and I’d lost all my edits from my manuscript. I was really happy with the edits. I’d had ideas from my critique group and I’d worked through them. Everyone I spoke to after I’d lost my edits said, next time will be better. The edits this time around will be stronger. Well I’m not too sure that they were but that manuscript is still sitting in London so here’s hoping they were.
Nowadays with smartphones, ipads and ipods, most have the ability to voice record so when an idea strikes when driving or walking the street, I simply should pull out the phone and activate voice recording. No one will think weird of you if you are talking to yourself, chances are they are talking on their blue tooth themselves.
In hindsight I should motivate myself to move and get the notepad and write those ideas down. They are probably the best ideas as I’m totally relaxed, not stressed about kids or what needs to be done and my muse and creativity is speaking. No wonder my muse is annoyed at me and won’t come out to play at the moment. I’ve ignored it when it wanted to be heard. Must break that habit.
Has inspiration struck you at an inopportune time and what did you do about it?

Hi Nicki:)
My inspiration comes at odd moments all the time:) I don't think it's ever been convenient…and no matter how prepared I think I am, I still have to scramble for something to write it down on.
My most current inspirational moment happened when I was in line to go to the Nutcracker…a woman stepped by and I got the first sentence for the opening of "The Rising"…I had the story, but you know how it is, sometimes the first sentence is a little wayward. I nudged John and whispered my line, and told him to help me "hold that thought!":) Between the two of us, we did:)
I try to have pen and paper somewhere around me most of the time, but, who'd a thunk the Nutcracker was going to toss me a line?;) (Yes I know that's grammatically wrong:):)
Good blog Nicki:) Looking forward to seeing you again…Lonestar here we come, yes?:)
