The Learning Journey Begins

It’s been a while since I blogged – very bad.  So many good intentions but I always seem to forget when I’m on to blog or when I’m trying to avoid something I blog 🙂

It’s been four weeks since I received the email that has changed my writing life.  Wow, I can’t believe it’s been four weeks! I’m still so excited when I think about that email.

Anyway I submitted some story ideas and received a quick reply saying, good but not quite there, try again.  What I’m now thinking about those stories is that they were generic, been there done that sort of storyline. The editor was looking for something deeper and more unique.  But I was so bummed and so worried I’d messed up my chance.

Once I pushed down my initial disappointment and anger at myself for not hitting the mark. I looked deep inside me and came up with three different proposals, although I did keep the basis of one of my previous ideas – just not the conflict part.

I get a reply saying, thanks, I’ll look them over.  Then started the love affair with the send/receive button on my email programme.  I’m sure I wore it out with the constant pressing 🙂  I had to admit at about 1pm on Friday afternoon that I wasn’t going to get a reply as it’s passed knock off time in London and it’s the weekend!! So the weekend came and went and so did Monday with no reply.  By this time I’m thinking, oh man I’ve totally stuffed it up and wasted this wonderful opportunity.  Of course, the more positive side of me was saying, no news is good news.

On Tuesday morning I get up and check my emails on my phone, as is the norm these days – still nothing.  So I got the kids up, did my morning routine and about half an hour later there it was sitting all nice and by itself in the email box – an email from the editor.  She really liked the 3rd idea I had, which was also the one that had part of one of my first proposals to her.

Now it’s the next step.  More in depth character charts and a synopsis.  Also I came up with another dimension I really wanted to add in initially but couldn’t quite work out how it would work, but now I worked out how it could! When I emailed the editor about it, she loved the idea too!  Phew!!

So it’s time to open a the “Snowflake” software by Randy Ingermanson to get a more in depth outline of my story and work out my synopsis.

Exciting times and challenging times, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.  It’s going to be a rollercoaster of a ride and I know at the end it’s going to be amazing!!
