Wow it’s hard to believe that three weeks ago I was getting all excited to head to New Orleans for the annual RT Booklovers Convention. It kind of doesn’t feel like it actually happened but it did.
I really dislike driving around Houston. The freeways give me the heebie jeebies and everyone talks on the phone and well it’s just a little frightening sometimes. Anyway I was determined that I was going to drive to New Orleans. I’d driven to Austin twice so I wanted to challenge myself and go doublt that distance. Obviously I did it and it was a little nerve wracking on the way down – oh my goodness those 18 wheelers are scary!!
I had two car buddies with me which was awesome. My gorgeous friend Shey, who assisted me at the book signing. And my other wonderful friend, soon to be a published author Janet Wrenn. They kept me sane while driving and we all got on so well that I’d definitely do a road trip with them again.
Unfortunately it took us longer to get there than we thought. We hit an accident and didn’t move for almost 45 minutes. Then we came upon another accident, fortunately for us we were only about 15 cars away from it so we got through it pretty quickly. Then we hit peak hour/rush hour traffic in Baton Rouge and that took us over an hour to get through.
We got to New Orleans at close to 7pm which was like about 3 hours after I thought we would arrive by. We were due to go on a Ghost Walk but we all were ‘car’ tired and just wanted to chill out. We ended up going to the Aussie dinner which was good but the service was rather slow.
It was there I got to catch up with my wonderful friends from last year’s RT a wonderful reader friend, Phuong Phan, Sasha aka Caribbean Book Accent Reviews and Sara from Harlequin Junkie. We chat online but I’ve missed them and it was so good to see them again. From the picture you can see Sara likes playing the fool. I’m sitting next to the lovely NYT & USA Today Best Selling Entangled Publishing Author Katee Robert.
A mini party ensued in our room. I love all these girls so seeing them, speaking to them and spending time with them was fantastic.
So that’s my first day at RT. Well not really first day as it was spent driving, so perhaps I should say first day of RT adventure.
I’ll be back with more!!
