I’m a huge fan of series, where we follow characters for 3, 4, 5 or more books. I particularly liked the Dynasty series that Desire puts out every year. I know I have one of those on my e-reader and I’m collecting the latest one.
Usually I’ll read them the month I get them, but recently, because I keep buying books when I should stop, a few of them have built up and I ended up reading them in one go.
There was a series I read which was about sisters. There were some great stories in the series and some so-so. I was anticipating the last book, to see the journey of all the sisters come to fruition and see them all together again. Oh I was disappointed with the book, the part I did enjoy was the epilogue where we got a snap shot into the future of all the sisters, except for the sister in the last book. I don’t know whether it was the author’s style that didn’t appeal, or maybe I had built up my expectations to a too high a standard.
I skimmed through the book and felt a little let down.
Last night I completed another 8 book series, of which I only read 7, for some reason I couldn’t read the 3rd book – not sure why and maybe I’ll go back and read it at another time. Again there were some hit and misses for me in the series.
What I’ve discovered is that I need to not have preconceived ideas on how I want the series to go. It’s been pre-determined by others, my mission is to enjoy the stories and not over analyse the stories.
It hasn’t turned me off reading series, I like them alot and will keep buying them.
