Coming out of Nano Haze

Do you see it?  Right there, off to the left. Do you see it? Do you see it? Yep I did it!!  I made 50,000 words in the month of the November. I won!!  And I’m a little excited and pumped and happy. Can you tell? 🙂 🙂 🙂

It was tough let me tell you. I told you about the 2nd week blues. I have to admit that was a tough week to get through but I did it. I worked through the blues and made it out the other side.

So how did it work for me? How did I get to the 50K mark? Well once I hit 30K the next I knew I was over 40K and on the downward journey.  But I’m not sure how I did it, apart from sheer determination and the ability to ignore the household chores.  Well, hang on, better be honest here – I’d basically do anything to avoid household chores. LOL

As you know when I started I was just going to do it unofficially and see how I went. But after 4 days I thought, no you actually have to do it properly if you’re going to do it at all so I joined up. I believe that’s what kept me going – I didn’t want to fail. I wanted to achieve it. If I did it again next year would I be as narrow minded about achieving it or would I relax because I’d already done it once? To be honest, I don’t know the answer to that question until next year, but I know I’ll give it a damn good try.

I do believe that I may have found something that works for me and that was flicking between two manuscripts at the same time. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, even with both heroine’s names beginning with “A” in both stories!!  Now that wasn’t planned it was a coincidence. Both are completely different lines and I truly believe I didn’t mix those up.

One manuscript now stands at 33,600 words and the other 27,582. I have to finish them both now. Then I think I’ll let them sit for a little bit. Give myself some distance from the story.  Maybe I’ll try a novella? Next step will be print them out and read them through. See how my nano words worked and fitted in. Make notes on what works, what doesn’t and what needs to be completely scrapped and re-typed.  It will be an interesting couple of months I think. Having said that I’m looking forward to the challenge.

What I did find out though was the more you sit and work on your manuscripts, the more the words flow easily.

For me NANOWRIMO got my mojo back and I’m starting to believe back in myself again.
