I did it!

It’s so very hard to press the ‘send’ button. Your finger hovers over the left click button on your mouse. You know the moment you click it, you can’t get it back.

I’m going to show my age here, but it’s like that time you sent a Christmas card to your secret crush in school. You drop the card in the mailbox – yes the mailbox. A mailbox has a certain amount of anonymity that emails don’t have, don’t you think?  The moment it leaves your hand you think “Oh God, NO I want it back. Oh geez, how embarrassing. What’s he going to think when he gets it?”

Fast forward a few years and you’re married with a house, kids and pets. But you still experience the same feelings when you send off your partial or full manuscript. That moment straight after your ‘outbox’ is empty. The thoughts it – Oh I should’ve done that differently. What if they laugh and pass it around the office as the biggest joke ever!!

Whether your 14 or 40, those feelings don’t change. What can change is the feeling of accomplishment. The feeling of yes I did it!  I took the chance. I did it when there are tons of other people that don’t.

Rejection is not easy but whether it’s a rejection for a manuscript or a job. It is a part of life. Be proud that you took the plunge – I know I am.
