I’m very excited to be part of another blog hop and this one is close to my heart – it’s celebrating my home country Australia. The “Australia Day Blog Hop” has 25 authors participating on a 26 day blog hop!! On Australia Day – January 26th you will have a chance to win a $100 voucher and 26 E-Books (Some print) from the participating authors. Make sure you enter the “Rafflecoper” at the end of this blog and check out the other participants of this blog hop each day and keep entering for a chance to win.
Living on the other side of the world, Australia Day passes without any fanfare. There’s no day long parties or family get togethers or fireworks when the sun sets. Here in the US it’s just another day.
My home town of Perth where fireworks would be fired by barges on the Swan River
What it does do is highlight the distance, not only mileage but also cultural distance. So what you have to do is celebrate in your own way. But to be honest we really don’t do much. If it falls on a weekday well, for my hubby it’s a workday. He can’t take the day off just because it’s “Australia Day”, even though he works for a company that is largely based in Australia.
This year it’s on a Sunday so we may find a party with some other Aussies or we just might sit back and chill out at home.
But one thing I know for sure – my heart will be home in Australia and it will always be home for me. I’m proud to call myself an Australian and to be an Australian Author!!
Let me share a song which is very true for me.

Nicole, I feel your homesickness, and your post almost made me cry! I love Peter Allen’s song, and whenever I hear it I’m reminded what an incredible country we live in. Hope you have a happy Australia Day in the States.
Hi Tima!
Thanks for stopping by. Yep that song always makes me get choked up too. 🙂
Happy Australia Day!
Thank you!! Back at you 🙂
Hi Nicole
I love Australia day as well we will be having a family bbq I have ben into the City before but it is so busy
Have fun
Helen
Thanks Helen! I hope you have a great time at your family BBQ. Maybe I’ll go and get some lamb chops and make a pavlova and we’ll have our own little party.
I know when I was overseas how much that song touched me every time I heard it, I remember being in the UK and going into work on Australia Day with my little flag and koala I did feel very homesick with the gold and rain and having to work. So I feel for you but have a great day this year because it’s a Sunday and hope you can have a barbie
Thanks Chris and I’m glad you kind of get where I’m coming from. It’s the same for Christmas with no extended family. It’s just weird when things that you’ve grown up with are not there!
Happy Australia Day!!
Thanks Rita! Happy Australia Day to you too!

I love that song! It really makes us feel our love for home.
It sure does! I don’t listen often as I get choked up all the time.

You may miss Australia, but we love you too!
Oh thank you Angie – that’s made me smile 🙂
When I lived overseas, Qantas used to use that song on all their in and out bound flights with all the kangaroos and sunsets — always had to take dark sunglasses in my cabin baggage to stop people seeing me cry…
Happy Australia Day.
[…] did a blog on how I’m going to celebrate today when I was part of a Blog Hop. It’s here if you want to find out what I said. I also blogged about why I set my stories in Australia, that […]
